Adolescent pregnancy is a significant public health issue: it is widespread, largely preventable, and associated with dire consequences, both for the young parents and their children. First, the dominant risk factors of teen pregnancy include insufficient maternal educational level, living in poverty, and having a mother who gave birth before the age of 18. Furthermore, the vast majority of adolescents do not know how to avoid getting pregnant due to poor sex education and parental neglect.
