AudioVideo Processor is a powerful tool when you need to:

Batch-process multiple files
Convert from one video format to another
Convert from one audio format to another
Resize the video, change the color depth, aspect ratio, or level of compression
Change audio sample rate, mono/stereo, resolution, or level of compression
Extract audio files from video files
Extract images from video and animation files
Combine two or more video files into one big video file
Combine two or more audio files into one big audio file
Merge animations with sound files
Or, if you just need to obtain detailed information on audio/video files.
Processing files with AudioVideo Processor is an easy 3-step operation:

Click the Add button to add the files for processing
Specify output options (presets let you do that in one go), and
Click the Do it! button.



Supported formats
Supported animation/audio/video formats are:

Dolby Digital compatible sound (.asc)
Audio Video Interleaved (.avi;.ivf;.divx)
Autodesk FLIC/FLIC-Pro (.flc;.fli)
MPEG Files (.mpg;.mpeg;.mpe;.m1v;.m2v;.mpa;.mp2;.mp3;.mpeg4)
Ogg Vorbis Audio (.ogg)
Windows Wave Sound (.wav)
Presets
Save settings that you often use are presets: this way you can set everything you need in one go. Check the Include files to process option if you have a recurring set of files that need to be processed again.

Converting
When converting from one format to another you may wish to use all the settings from the original files to process. In this case:

Only specify the output format, and
Leave everything else set to Auto.
This will create the new file that is as close to the original as possible. AudioVideo Processor automatically checks compatibility: if the original format has settings that are not compatible with the new format, the program will go for the closest match.

The standard settings for NTSC, PAL, VideoCD (VCD) and DVD are clearly marked. NTSC is the standard used in United States, Japan and a number of other countries. PAL is the the standard used in Australia, Europe, and a number of other countries.

Combining
When you wish to combine two or more audio/video files into one big audio/video file, make sure Combine into one option is selected and specify the full path to the output file.
Please note that input files will always be sorted alphabetically. If this is not what you want, rename the files to put them in the correct order before processing them.

Extracting audio from video files
To extract audio from video files:

Add video files to process
Specify audio output format and its settings, and
Click on Do it!
If the audio settings are left as Auto, the program will use the settings from the original files (or the closest match).

Which codec to use
A short answer is: it depends. Today there is a wide variety of codecs that will give you different quality/compression ratio. The program will automatically detect codecs that have been installed on your machine. Below are the guidelines for selecting the one that is best for you:

Most codecs use lossy compression: this means that some of the quality is lost to achieve better compression. Generally, the greater the quality, the greater the amount of disk space you will need. Higher compression ratios will lower the quality.
Different presentation tools and other software may only support some formats and some codecs. If you need maximum compatibility, use uncompressed avi or avi compressed with Cinepac codec.
When it comes to compression, in the past mpeg formats used to be more efficient than avi. However, there are many good codecs today and both avi and mpeg formats are highly efficient.
If the disk space is not an issue, use wav for sound files. They are fastest to load and play, but take up lots of disk space. For compressed sound, we recommend Ogg Vorbis over mp3.
