Even though there are some posts written in English, there are ALOT more written in Vietnamese. It would be nice if someone (or) a group effort could reply to all Vietnamêse posts and translate them into English. That way people like Trick and I and other non-Vietnamese readers could read ALL the posts on this website and not just a select "few". I feel that this would help thê Vietnamese who are trying to learn English too. They could read the Vietnamese translation and the English trânslation and learn from both by cỏmparing the two languages by reading the English words. I feel both Vietnamese readers and English readers would benifit from having both translations on "ALL" posts. Hey guys and gals, I want to read what you write and I am sure non-English reading people would like to know what we English writers write! Let's all work together to make this website the best on the Internet to "benefit" EVERYONE!!! This website is a great place to be!! I absolutely love spending time here. This website is the best!!!! Thanks to "ALL" of you for making this website possible and making it feel comfortable like you feel right at home here. I love all of you! Let's all be friends and work together...Right??? P.S. Thank you for your thoughts about this forum. I'm really happy to hear what you say.
Your idea about translation of Vietnamese posts is very good. But the problem is that there are not many members who can translate from Vietnamese into English well (although I'm sure many can translate from English into Vietnamese easily). And for those who can AND are willing to translate, time may be a problem to them. Remember that in our country, most people have to 'go online' from a public site (an Internet cafe or sth like that), just a few access the Internet from home, although this number is increasing rapidly.
However, the true difficulty of carrying out your idea is simply that the number of members of our forum is still rather small (now just about 100). And the number of members who are really active is even smaller. You know, this is a new forum, and this is what all newly-established forums face. However, this difficulty of our forum is even bigger, it is due to the purpose of our forum: language teaching. If it's about IT, programming, web designing, or entertainment, friendship & teenage discussions... I'm sure the number of members & posts would rise very quickly - that's the situation in Vietnam. I've joined many forums created by Vietnamese people and it's easy for me to realize this fact. In a forum for webmasters or teenagers for example, it's quite normal that a topic would get up to 50 or 60 replies. But in a forum for English learning purposes, it's VERY different: I joined an English learning forum which has about 4000 members, and it's quite normal that a topic gets hundreds of views but only 1 or 2 replies - the percent of really active members in these forums is very low. People just read others' tutorials & pieces of advice to help their learning - they don't care to offer theirs. Language learning tutorials & advice are often clear & easy to follow, thus people often don't have to ask anything (unlike topics in technical fields). This causes an overral 'inactiveness' in the forum.
I'm going to take care of this problem by diversifying the topics covered in the forum (first I'm going to create a new box for webmasters). Hope this will increase both the number of members & posts in the forum.
Right now I'm too busy to take any big change in the forum and to post more helpful resources. It's just been a new school year and I've got several assignments at university to do now. The amount of time I can be online is very little. From September 1st I'll be a bit freer & only from then will I be able to develop the site more seriously. Now I'm depending almost entirely on our forum's members to popularize our community by recommending this forum to their friends. Kelly & Trick, if you want this forum to develop & benefit everyone, you can help by inviting people who want to learn Vietnamese & are willing to teach their language to our forum - this will also draw more Vietnamese people who want to learn a foreign language to our forum. If the number of these people is large enough, I'll create a new box specifically for those who want to learn Vietnamese. I know some places where I can reach these people, but now I'm just too busy...
